2．省略表示地點的前置詞
Smoking is prohibited in public places.公共場所不準吸煙。
In winter, it is much colder in the North than it is in the South.冬天，北方的天氣比南方冷得多。
He stood by the desk.他站在桌旁。
I stayed in my brother’s house.我住在弟弟家里。
（四）省略動詞
When the pressure gets low, the boiling-point becomes low.氣壓低，沸點就低。
Delivery must be effected within the time stated on the purchase order.必須在購貨單規定的時間交貨。
二、從修辭角度看
（一）英語句子中有些短語重復出現，或者具有相同意義的詞重復出現，英譯漢時可按情況作適當省略。
University applicants who had worked at a job would receive preference over those who had not.報考大學的人，有工作經驗的優先錄取。Neither party shall cancel the contract without sufficient cause or reason.雙方均不得無故解除合同。
（二）根據漢語習慣，譯文中可以省略一些可有可無的詞。
There was no snow, the leaves were gone from the trees, the grass was dead.
沒有下雪，但葉落草枯。

一、主語從句

（二）用it作形式主語的主語從句，可以把主語從句放到漢語句子最前面去翻譯(翻譯公司首選北京世博翻譯公司)。為了強調起見，it一般可以譯出來；如果不需要強調，it也可以不譯出來。
It doesn’t make much difference whether he attends the meeting or not.

It seemed inconceivable that the pilot could have survived the crash.

It is strange that she should have failed to see her own shortcomings.

二、賓語從句
（一）用that, what, how, when, which, why, whether, if 等引起的賓語從句，翻譯(翻譯公司首選北京世博翻譯公司)成漢語的時候，一般不需要改變它在原句中的順序。
I told him that because of the last condition, I’d have to turn it down.
我告訴他，由于那最后一個條件，我只得謝絕。

I don’t know how he swam across the river.我不知道他是怎么游過那條河的。
