海水稻

saline-alkali tolerant rice

6月8日，在海拔2800米的青海省海西蒙古族藏族自治州格爾木市河西農場，經過4天插秧，海水稻的試種植面積已經達到28畝。這是海水稻首次在高海拔的青藏高原試種植。

The saline-alkali tolerant rice made by the team of China's "father of hybrid rice" Yuan Longping has reportedly been planted on the Qaidam Basin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for the first time.

青島海水稻研究發展中心鹽堿地稻作改良技術處處長吳占勇說：“這是海水稻首次在高寒地區試種植。我們將充分發揮柴達木盆地種植海水稻的優勢，開展品種本土化培育，篩選和培育耐寒耐旱水稻品系，這對格爾木乃至青藏高原地區農業種植結構調整有關鍵作用。”

It was the first time the team has conducted rice-planting experiments in high-altitude areas in hope of empowering Qinghai province to fully utilize and expand arable land, director of the Qingdao Saline-Alkali Tolerant Rice R&D Center said.

“海水稻”是“耐鹽堿水稻（saline-alkali tolerant rice）”的俗稱，普遍生長在鹽堿地（saline-alkali soil），具有耐鹽堿、抗澇、抗病蟲害、抗倒伏等特點。

The program, led by Yuan Longping, a renowned agronomist dubbed China's "father of hybrid rice," includes about 60,000 mu of rice to be planted in three cities in East China's Shandong province, and about 40,000 mu in seven bases in regions of Shaanxi, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang and Zhejiang.

這項計劃由中國“雜交水稻之父”、著名農學家袁隆平領導，包括在中國東部山東省的三個城市種植約6萬畝水稻，在陜西、青海、新疆、內蒙古、黑龍江、浙江等地的7個基地種植約4萬畝水稻。

In the long run, the team aims to turn 100 million mu of saline land into arable land, and to increase rice production to feed 80 million more people.

從長遠來看，該團隊的目標是把1億畝鹽堿地變成可耕地，并增加水稻產量，以養活8000萬人。

袁隆平的團隊在2017年研發出編號為YC0045的耐鹽堿水稻，畝產達到620.95公斤，取得重要突破。

Yuan's team successfully developed types of saline-alkali tolerant rice in 2017 and the highest yield reached 620.95 kg per mu.
