全國兩會期間，備受關注的民法典草案正在接受審議。

5月22日，作為今年全國兩會重要內容，醞釀多年的民法典草案提請十三屆全國人大三次會議審議。這將是新中國首部以法典命名的法律，開創了我國法典編纂的先河，具有里程碑意義。

The draft civil code is now under consideration by the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, which means that the Chinese people are getting very close to having a civil code of their own. Once adopted, it will be the first law code of the People's Republic of China and a milestone for China’s codification.

編纂民法典彰顯了中華民族的精氣神，是一個國家、一個民族走向繁榮強盛的象征和標志。

A civil code is the reflection of a national spirit as well as a symbol of a glorious age for a nation.

中國人民大學法學院院長王軼認為，一旦表決通過，民法典必將有力提升國家治理體系和治理能力現代化水平。

Once adopted, the civil code will greatly boost the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance, said Wang Yi, dean of the law school at Renmin University of China.

從1954年首次起草民法典算起，中國的民法典編纂之路已經走了66年。我們一起來看看它的“誕生”過程~

被譽為“社會生活百科全書”的民法典草案，由民法總則與各分編草案“合體”而來，包括總則編、物權編、合同編、人格權編、婚姻家庭編、繼承編、侵權責任編及附則，共1260個條文，總字數逾10萬字。民法典草案不僅覆蓋人民生活衣食住行、生老病死、生產經營的方方面面，而且與時俱進，不斷適應時代要求。

Dubbed as "an encyclopedia on social life", a civil code is a wide-ranging legislative package that aims to provide a systematic legal protection of private rights including, inter alia, those related to property, contracts, personality rights, marriage and family, inheritance and torts liability. It’s the first law to contain 1,260 articles and the first law with more than 100,000 Chinese characters. It has systematically integrated existing civil laws and regulations and modified them to adapt to new realities.

民法典草案事關每個公民切身利益，是新時代人民權利的“宣言書”。對于住宅建設用地使用權70年到期、適當降低業主共同決定事項的門檻、夫妻共同債務范圍、高空拋物墜物、性騷擾、個人信息保護等社會熱點和百姓關切，草案均進行了直接回應。

One highlight of this draft civil code is its emphasis on the protection of people's rights. It effectively addresses people's concerns by lowering the threshold for decision-making by the general meeting of the owners of flats, providing for "co-signing" of joint debts between spouses, prohibiting sexual harassment and protecting individual’s personal data.
